Porotherm is a precision engineered modern clay block walling system with reassuringly traditional values.
It is revolutionising the UK construction industry through exceptionally fast, virtually dry construction combined with high strength and thermal efficiency and non combustable.
Offering outstanding ecological balance, Porotherm products are a great tool to minimise environmental impact in manufacture and assembly. Clay remains the most sustainable solution for modern buildings. As a natural material, Porotherm provides a complete, long term sustainability, offering increasingly sophisticated low-carbon product manufacture, but giving a building life of over 150 years with little or no maintenance.
Sustainable
- All code for sustainable homes levels can be achieved with Porotherm
- Life expectancy of more than 150 years and blocks recyclable at end of life, e.g. hard core
- Uses 95% less water than traditional blockwork (50 litres of water per 10m2 traditional / 2.82 litres in Porotherm)
Energy-efficient
- Less embodied energy due to lower firing temperatures
- Increased building fabric efficiency, so reduced need for bolt-on enhancements
- Good thermal mass
Waste-efficient
- Maximum build volume for minimum material usage
- Typically 2% waste provision for blocks
- Mortar can be mixed in small quantities local to laying and applied in a controlled fashion, reducing wastage
Uses:
- Inner leaf of brick faced cavity walls
- Inner and outer leaves of rendered cavity walls
- Infill panels within framed structures
- Separating party walls
Benefits:
- Thin joint construction allows construction of one storey per day.
- Internal leaf of construction two stories ahead of external leaf – expediting the “water-tight” date.
- Matches masonry structure for fire-resistance (Class A1 non-combustable), longevity and sustainability, erected at speed of timber frame.
- ZeroPlus® mortar used from 0°C; applied with roller (reduces dermatological risk). Bag contained with shrink wrapped pallet will lay entire pack, no requirement for additional materials for laying Porotherm.
- Typical air tightness ratings of 3m3 / m2 / hr at 50 Pa with Eco-Parge or wet plaster.
- Specific two part lintels or internal box lintel / external single leaf lintel for cavities. Concrete lintels for internal walls.
- Specific cavity ties for thin joint construction designed and sourced with Ancon.
- Full range of Fischer and Rawl fixings designed for Porotherm system.
